If you are into knitting, I wanted to share this pattern I put together for a new washcloth. I just love this one. I knit another lace-bordered pattern that someone else designed, and I just loved the uniqueness of it. I thought "how cool would it be to have the top portion be not just plain stockinette, but an eyelet?" It worked rather well, I think. To give proper credit, these two stitches are both from Betty Barnden's book "Knitting Basics". I simply put together the pattern repeats and added a border. Let me know if you find any errors!
Country Lace Washcloth
Materials: 1 Ball Sugar n Cream or Peaches N Cream cotton yarn Size 6 Needles
Note: "B3" refers to border stitches. In my pattern, all "B" stitches are garter stitch...knit every "B" stitch.
Cast on 45 Stitches Rows 1-3: Knit all stitches
Scallop Pattern: Row 4: (right side) B3 *(K1, yo) twice, SKP, sl1, k2tog, pass sl st over, k2 tog, yo, k1, yo, rep from * to last st, k1, B3. Row 5: B3, P39, B3 Repeat these two rows 5 times. Then: Knit two rows. Make sure you end up on the right side. If you aren't, knit another row until you are. (remember I did this cloth sort of "as-you-go"...!!)
Eyelet Pattern: Row 1: (right side row) Knit all stitches Row 2: B3, P39, B3 Row 3: B3, K4, *yo, k2tog, k3, rep from *until three stitches from border stitches (you might not have exactly 3 stitches before you get to the border stitches. Just knit whatever is there in the pattern), B3 Row 4: B3, P39, B3 Row 5: Knit all stitches Row 6: B3, P39, B3 Row 7: B4, *yo, k2tog, k3, rep from * to last 4 sts before border sts (again, this may be a little more or less...just work in pattern here), yo, k2tog, k2 (or whatever is left before border sts!), B3 Row 8: B3, p39, B3
Repeat these 8 rows until block is almost square or as long as you like. Then:
Knit 3 rows.
Bind off.
I'm not good at writing patterns!! Let me know if you have any trouble, or need any clarification or help!
